CLIENT - City of Germantown (Germantown, Tennessee)
DESCRIPTION - Germantown City Hall sits below the intersection of two very busy roads, making the building hard to find. To increase visibility, the City wanted to create a new identification sign at the intersection. Along with designing the sign, Dalhoff Thomas design|studio took advantage of the opportunity to solve a major drainage issue caused by runoff coming down the slope into the parking lot. Rain gardens are designed at the bottom of the slope to capture the runoff, slow it down, and infiltrate it into the soil. Native grasses, wildflowers, and shrubs are used to filter the drainage and help remove pollutants. The City plans to use the project as a demonstration area to show citizens, developers, and contractors how rain gardens can be constructed and incorporated into a site and drainage design.
